Preparations for a trip to Reka mountain

Practical info about the trip itself. The trip starts from Skjærfjordeidet. It is located approx. 25 minutes drive northwest from Sortland, in direction of Bø. The trip itself takes 10-12 hours.

The trip starts with a leisurely walk to the southwest wall of Reka. From here we will start the actual climbing. Here we also eat a good lunch before we start climbing.

The actual climb is 4 rope lengths. A rope length varies from 20-50 meters on Reka. The last part of the trip is an easy walk to the very top. Here you can enjoy Vesterålen's most exclusive view. Take pictures and enjoy a little chocolate before the trip down.

The trip down is relatively fast compared to the trip up. Here we rappel all the way down to the lunch place where we started the actual climbing.

Safety

We provide experienced guides who have safety high in focus and at the same time place emphasis on giving you the best possible experience. We provide all safety equipment;

  • climbing harness
  • helmet
  • climbing shoes
  • ropes
  • safety equipment

It is also possible to wear stiff mountain shoes if you wish.

Clothing / Equipment

You choose what you want to wear. Everything according to your own needs. Regardless, we strongly recommend that you have a windbreaker, good shoes and a good day trip backpack.

Personal equipment such as harnesses, shoes, helmets and ropes will be handed out before we start, so a backpack must be able to contain all this. In addition, you must bring your own food and extra clothes.

There is marshy terrain up to where we start climbing so dry socks are also a good idea to bring.

Here we have set up a packing list you can use to pack for the trip.

Minimum requirements for packing:

  • day trip bag 30l (this can be borrowed if you do not have)
  • good shoes
  • shell clothing
  • 2 bottles of water
  • good packed lunch

Additional recommendation

  • dry socks
  • dry shirt
  • windproof / warm jacket
  • light sweater
  • abrasion plasters
  • chocolate / nuts
